What’s on Offer?

Successful applicants receive:

• A 24-month fully funded fellowship at a TUM department

• A monthly stipend of €2,670

• A kick-off payment of €430

• An additional €350/month if you reside in the Munich metropolitan area

• Optional family benefits to support researchers with dependents

While consumables and conference costs are not covered by default, fellows may receive additional support from their host institution, subject to agreement.

Who Can Apply?

The fellowship is open to:

• Researchers who have completed their PhD within the last three years, or who will complete it within the next 12 months

• Candidates who are not residing in Germany at the time of application

• Applicants who have not received their doctorate from TUM or currently work at TUM

Whether your work is in engineering, life sciences, social sciences, or any other field—all research topics are welcome, as long as your project aligns with the research focus of your chosen TUM host.

A Two-Phase Application Process

The application unfolds in two parts:

• Phase I: You can submit your initial application without a letter of support from a TUM host. This allows you to express your interest and get the process started with ease.

• Phase II: If you’re shortlisted, you’ll need to secure support from a TUM host, who will officially back your application and help shape your proposed project.

This two-step approach makes it easier to apply even if you’re still in the process of building connections within TUM.
